I went to see the new film of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. If you've read the book, it's excellent. VERY true to the novel (as true as it can be in 2-1/2 hours; it would really need at least a 6-hour miniseries to do everything in the depth it needs, since the book is so dense with information). Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara are superb, as is everyone in the cast (although the actor playing Nils Fucking Bierman is at least a decade too young, but that's no reflection on his performance).
If you haven't read the book yet, do so before you see the movie--otherwise it'll be nearly impossible to know who's who--particularly in the Vanger family--without a scorecard. There simply isn't time to establish all the details as clearly as they need to be. Many details just appear and vanish again; if you've read the book, you know what they are and appreciate them; if not, they're just confusing.
I guess they figure that, since the book sold 65 million copies worldwide, the people who really care will already know and appreciate all the detail they went to.
The score's wonderful, too; they generate a lot of suspense with the music alone.
